How to Pack and Prepare Before Starting Your Bathroom Remodel
One of the most common aspects of a bathroom remodel that can be overlooked is what you can do after you have planned the remodel and before work begins, and that is packing and preparing your belongings. While this may seem obvious to some, I’d like to share with you some tips and tricks on how you can do this to make the process of remodeling your bathroom smooth and efficient.
Allow time to prepare for construction
After you spend time deciding what fixtures, materials, and finishes to use in your bathroom remodel it can be tempting to schedule the start date as soon as possible. It can be beneficial to allow time in your schedule to pack and prepare your belongings before construction begins to avoid any complications or delays. If you’re planning on hiring a contractor for your project this may not be an issue as they will often have a waiting period before they can start, during which you can prepare.
Pack by category
When packing the belongings in your bathroom, try to keep in mind that you will have to unpack them too! Packing things according to categories can make this much easier, such as a separate box for your toiletries, cosmetics, medications, ect. After packing items by category, make sure you label them to have an easy time unpacking.
Opportunity to purge/declutter
There's no better time to take a good look at what items you need and don't need than when you have to pack and store them. We all have items at the back of cabinets and drawers that we never use, and might not even know they exist! Getting rid of these items before you remodel your bathroom will make your new bathroom clean and uncluttered.
Protect fragile items and valuables
It is not uncommon to have certain items in your bathroom that are valuable or fragile, such as jewelry, heirlooms, and wall hangings. Consider storing items such as these in a secure place such as a safe or vault. This will provide a peaceful and calm state of mind while your bathroom undergoes a construction process.
Consider storage options if needed
While it is not a necessity for many people, if you’re remodeling a master bathroom you may not have enough space in your home to store the belongings. Carefully choosing a safe and affordable third party storage location can be a good solution to this problem if it may arise.
Create a clear path
This tip is one that extends beyond the confines of the bathroom you’re remodeling. Throughout the construction process of remodeling a bathroom there are bound to be many trips in and out of your house to move materials and debris. Deciding the path that is going to be used by whoever is doing the work and clearing this path can reduce the chances of damaging items and accidents. Doing so can include removing pictures and wall hangings in the path or moving pieces of furniture such as shoe racks or side tables that could be in the way.
From packing your belongings wisely to protecting things that could be damaged during the remodeling process, these tips can make the remodeling of your bathroom go smoothly and efficiently before the work even begins!
