8 Home Renovations to Improve Your Home This Spring

Spring time is here! I don’t know about you, but it couldn’t have came soon enough for me. With the amazing weather and that mean old sun staying out a little later, spring is the perfect time of year to invite loved ones into your home. As the season changes, you may feel that it’s time to make some improvements on your home. This can be to freshen thing up, or better protect your home against seasonal conditions. In this blog post I’ll tell you all about 8 different home renovations that will improve your home for the spring season.

Upgrading Your Windows

The windows in your home may be ready to replace if any are difficult to open or offer too little sound insulation from the busy street. Most home windows last 15 to 30 years, and replacing them can increase the value of your home up to $10,000, averaging a 69% return on investment if you’re looking to sell your house. But don’t worry, even if you’re not looking to sell your house anytime soon, upgrading the windows on your house can still offer benefits. The most important benefit, in my opinion, is the energy savings. Upgraded modern windows that are energy efficient when properly installed can reduce your energy bill by 12% allowing you to save from $126 to $465 per year. Upgraded windows also offer improved curb appeal and tighter security.

New Front Door

Depending on how the door is maintained and the materials it is constructed out of, a front door can last anywhere from 30 to 100 years before needing replacement! Here are 3 things to look out for that can mean its time for you to consider a new front door: 1) Any cracks or holes in the door, 2) wind drafts or water leaks, and 3) difficulty closing and locking the door. A new front door will improve your curb appeal, energy efficiency, and security. Painting an existing door is also a great option if your door is in fine condition but not exactly what you want. Your front door is the first thing someone will see when coming to your home. Set a first impression that is uniquely you by changing the hardware, adding spot lights, or choosing a color that pops!

Fresh Paint

A fresh coat of paint on your hous’es walls can make a world of difference! This is a great way to affordably renovate your home this year and there’s no better time than spring! A fresh coat of paint also provides an extra level of protection to your walls and can increase the value. Take advantage of the changing season and use it as an opportunity to also change the mood of your home, because let’s face it, nobody is the same person they were the last time they painted their house! We all change! Let your home reflect this with a fresh coat of paint that matches you.

New Flooring

Could it be possible one of the best places to start home renovations is right below your feet? Yes! Over years of use, it is natural for your flooring to receive some amount of wear and tear. Replacing your flooring can even increase the value of your home by anywhere from 10% to 54%. Normally carpet will last roughly 10 years, while other materials such as tile, vinyl, and wood, can last up to 20 to 30 years before needing to be replaced. It could be time to replace the flooring in your home if it has excessive scratches, water damage, is noisy, or has unusual smells.

HVAC Maintenance

HVAC maintenance this spring should be a non-negotiable. At the very least, I would recommend a system inspection by a professional to ensure your HVAC system is fully operable and optimized. There is a host of costly problems that can be avoided by having regular HVAC maintenance, and spring is the perfect time to do so, before we all put them through the ringer with the upcoming Texas summer! Maintenance on your HVAC unit can prevent costly repairs, as well as improve the energy efficiency and safety of your family in your home.

Backyard Deck

If you know me, than you know I think nothing beats spending time outside with loved ones. A new deck that you build this spring could be the BBQ’ing hot spot for years to come! A backyard deck will also provide increased livible space, as well as home value. A new deck could be the perfect home improvement project for you this spring. Be creative and customize it to perfectly suite your needs.

Replacing Siding

Are you looking for a way to change the look of your house and improve energy efficiency? Replacing the siding on your home may be the answer. Depending on the type of siding used it could last up to 40 years before needing to be replaced, but no siding last forever! Some tell tale signs that your siding needs replaced are any cracks or holes, rotten material, and needing maintenance too often. Experiment with samples to find a siding that will not only save you money on your energy bill, but take the look of your home to the next level.

Landscaping

Along with spring comes something we all know- yard work. Whether you love it or hate it, it has to be done and wouldn’t you rather work on a yard that’s beautifully designed? From perfectly cut grass to vibrant flowerbeds, having your yard landscaped can make all the difference. If you plan on selling your home anytime soon, landscaping your yard can also add up to 20% value to your home as well as dramatically boost your curb appeal. Combine landscaping with perhaps a new deck, and you’ll have an outdoor living space to enjoy all summer!
